The New Zealand Promoters Association (NZPA)Provides Ticket Buyers Added Security with the NZPA TRUST TICK*

The New Zealand Promoter Association (NZPA) is proud to announce a new initiative to provide ticket buyers, performers, and suppliers with peace of mind when it comes to show cancelations.

The NZPA TRUST TICK logo will feature on the event advertising of over thirty NZPA members representing New Zealand’s biggest and most trusted contemporary concert and festival promoters.  Members include Live Nation, Frontier Touring, Rhythm N Vines, Rhythm and Alps, Greenstone Entertainment, Loop Media, Liberty Stage, Showcase Entertainment Group, The Stetson Group, Plus1 Entertainment, Pacific Entertainment, the ASB Classic and more.

Maintaining professional integrity is of paramount importance to the organisation, and NZPA members pledge to adhere to the highest ethical standards involved in the production and promotion of events as set out in the NZPA Code of Conduct published on their website.

The NZPA Code of Conduct covers all aspects involved in event production from accuracy in event advertising and acting fairly and honestly towards the public, performers, and suppliers to ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment at events for all concerned. In addition, there are a raft of governing laws that promoters must observe when producing events, such as the Fair Trading and Consumer Guarantee Acts, Commerce, Health and Safety, and Human Rights Acts, and where applicable, the Sale of Liquor Act.

With so much involved with event production, promoters must place a heavy reliance on suppliers, including ticket agencies, to also act with integrity in service delivery and sometimes there will be situations outside of a promoters control that will impact their ability to fulfil all their obligations, such as the failure of the Ticket Rocket ticket company (formerly Ticket Direct) in 2020 that left both promoters and ticket buyers out of pocket.  Fortunately, these situations are uncommon and NZPA members have a commendable history of successfully delivering events or always refunding ticket buyers where cancelations have occurred. However, without any distinguishing marks in the marketplace, the public does not know whether they are dealing with a trustworthy event promoter or not and therefore the NZPA held concerns that the failure of any event presently reflected badly on all promoters, including members.

That’s why the NZPA has created a distinctive TRUST TICK logo exclusively for the use of their Registered Members to inform the public that the organization promoting an event displaying the logo will to the best of their ability guarantee adherence to all the conditions of the NZPA Code of Conduct and governing laws, including refunding ticket buyers for cancelled events.

To the extent possible members will also contractually cover the requirement with ticketing suppliers for ticket buyer funds to be held in trust until an event has been delivered. In this respect, NZPA would like to acknowledge the work the Entertainment Venues Association of New Zealand (EVANZ) has also undertaken to update the official Ticketing Code of Practice to bring New Zealand into line with international best practice and increase consumer protection.  The EVANZ Ticketing Code of Practice, as represented by their specific logo, requires all ticketing agencies adopting their ticketing code to hold ticket buyers funds in a dedicated trust account to be available to promoters only on event delivery or for refunds in the case of event cancelation.  The NZPA TRUST TICK adds further protection by way of a direct from promoter pledge, therefore giving buyers more confidence to purchase and plan their concert experience and that all aspects of event production will be professionally managed.

While each promoter is solely responsible for ensuring all obligations involved with an event displaying the NZPA TRUST TICK logo are fully met (DISCLAIMER) if any of the below TRUST TICK logos appear on event advertising, buyers can be confident to purchase tickets to the event, likewise performers and suppliers in all dealings with the promoter.  *Full registration of the NZPA TRUST TICK™ trademark is pending.
